Choose which events NEXT cameras detect, then draw a region of interest to focus detection on part of a camera's view. A region of interest limits where analytics events are triggered; it is not a privacy mask that hides video.
Use a desktop browser and an account with permission to change account and device settings. Set the camera's position, zoom, and orientation first; see Configure camera image and audio. Region Of Interest controls require a connected NEXT camera with a live preview.
Choose the account's analytics
Account settings affect cameras across the account. Make this choice before adjusting individual cameras.
- Open Account and find Analytics Settings.
- Select the detection types your account needs: Person Detection, Animal Detection, Vehicle Detection, and Face Detection/Recognition (Beta). Clear a type to stop tracking it across the account.
- Select Update.
Face detection depends on person detection. Keep Person Detection enabled when you need face detection. Detection results, including face matches, need human review; they are not proof of identity.
Choose analytics for one camera
- Open Devices → Cameras. Open the camera's thumbnail menu → Camera Settings → Camera Setup.
- Find Analytics Settings below the preview. The camera shows the types enabled at account level.
- Select the types this camera needs, or clear types that are not useful for its view. Keep Person Detection on if you need Face Detection/Recognition (Beta).
- Wait for each change to finish. These NEXT camera checkboxes save as you change them; the Update button used for a region is a separate control.
If an expected type is missing, check the account's Analytics Settings before changing other camera settings. Creating a notification workflow is a separate task; see Set up alert workflows.
Draw the detection area
- On Camera Setup, select Region Of Interest above the live preview.
- Click around the area you want to monitor to place its corners. Use at least three points, then click the first point again to close the shape. Keep its edges from crossing.
- Select Update to save the completed region. If Update is unavailable, check that the shape is closed and the live preview is available.
- Review the saved outline against the part of the image you intended to cover.
Move or redraw the area
- Return to Camera Setup → Region Of Interest.
- Drag inside the existing shape to move it. To draw a new shape, click outside it and select Yes in Redraw ROI, then place and close the new shape.
- Select Update to save the change, or Cancel to return to the last saved region.
Note: After changing pan, tilt, rotation, hardware zoom, corridor mode, or orientation, review the region and redraw it if necessary. Its outline may no longer cover the intended scene.
To review recorded detections, use Search camera activity and play recordings. A lack of results alone does not establish that nobody entered the area.
