Overview
You can add a person to Anavio by uploading a clear photo of their face. Anavio uses that photo to recognize them on your cameras, and you can find their appearances in Search with the Face match filter.
If the person needs watching, such as a banned visitor or someone involved in an incident, turn on the Person of Interest toggle while adding them. POIs can also be filtered in Search with the POI filter.
Add a Person by Photo
- Click Add Person by Photo in the top right on the Search page. The Add Person window opens.
- Upload a face photo. Drag the photo into the box marked Drag & drop or choose a file to upload by clicking Choose file and select it from your computer. Wait until the preview appears.
- Check the face crop. Make sure the preview shows one face, clearly, with nothing covering it. If it's poor quality, remove the photo and upload a better one.
- Enter the person's details.
- Name – their name, or a clear label if unknown.
- Tag as Person of Interest if required.
- Save. Click Save. A confirmation message appears and the person is added to the POI list if selected.
- Check it worked. Find the new entry in the list.
To tag or untag someone later: open their entry from the People list, switch the Person of Interest toggle on or off, and save.
Photo tips for a good match
The photo is what Anavio compares to, so a better photo means fewer missed and false matches.
| Do | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Face the camera, looking straight ahead | Side profiles or heads turned away |
| Even lighting on the whole face | Strong shadows, backlight or glare |
| One person in the photo | Group photos |
| Face fills a good part of the image | Tiny, distant faces |
| Recent photo | Old photos that no longer resemble the person |
| Face uncovered | Sunglasses, masks, hats pulled low |
A still taken from a clear camera recording works well if no other photo is available.
